RTP and game versions in Canadian casinos

Return to player is a mathematical property of a specific game configuration. The operator listing may differ from the supplier’s general page.

The Starburst example

OLG’s Starburst page lists 95.05% RTP. NetEnt’s supplier page lists 96.08%. Both are published for their own contexts. A Canadian reader should use the game help at the exact operator account and province, because a familiar name or image does not determine the configured maths.

What the number does and does not say

At 95% theoretical RTP, the long-run expected return is C$95 for each C$100 of stakes across a very large number of plays under the stated model. It is not a promise that C$100 deposited becomes C$95, nor that a short session will converge on the average. Volatility describes how outcomes are distributed, and two games with the same RTP can feel very different.

Use the calculator carefully

The calculator is a mathematical illustration of a selected wager and return rate. It cannot predict a particular spin, session or withdrawal. Enter the number from the operator’s game information, not a generic search snippet.

Province and supplier are separate

A supplier’s foreign licence or demo shows product development and mechanics. It does not authorize an Ontario, Alberta or Québec operator. Check the provincial directory and the account game catalogue independently.

Volatility is a different question

RTP describes the theoretical long-run proportion returned by a configured game. Volatility describes how results can be spread over time: two games can show similar RTP figures but deliver wins and losses in very different-sized, differently timed steps.

Neither label forecasts a session. When comparing a payline game, a tumble game and a cluster game, first read the trigger and feature rule; then read the exact game information panel for its configured RTP and any volatility description.

Questions, answered

Why do Starburst pages show different RTP values?

OLG publishes 95.05% for its listing; NetEnt publishes 96.08% for its supplier page. Use the configured operator game help for play.

Does 95% RTP mean C$95 from a C$100 deposit?

No. RTP is a long-run ratio of total stakes, not a deposit return or a prediction for a session.
